Title: A Little Night Music Author: Susan E-mail: susanf@ticnet.com or filesfan34@yahoo.com Classification: vignette Keyword: MSR Archive: Anywhere, just ask first please. Disclaimer: These characters belong to each other, not me. Author's notes: It's no secret that I miss Mulder terribly, but another thing I really miss is the sexual tension between Mulder and Scully, particularly when they're bantering back and forth with each other about whatever subject they happen to be talking about. I wrote this for myself, but I also wrote it for all of you who also miss seeing the same thing... Summary: Mulder, Scully, a stakeout, and some crickets. ************************************************************ A Little Night Music by Susan ~~~~~~ Mulder parked the car across from the old warehouse and turned off the headlights. Two crickets immediately hopped onto the windshield. "Looks like we got some help on our stakeout, Scully." Tapping on the glass with his knuckles, he smiled at the black duo now crawling one right after another across the left side of the window. "I thought you hated insects, Mulder," she said, raising her eyebrow. He popped a sunflower seed into his mouth and cracked it open. "I do, but crickets are okay, I guess." "Oh...and why is that?" He likes it when she questions him on everything, although he's never come right out and told her that he does. "I think it's that whole rubbing their legs together thing," he replied, spitting out the shell and launching it out his open car window. "You gotta admit it's pretty cool, Scully." She's always found his childlike exuberance endearing, although she's never come right out and told him she feels that way. "A lot of insects are able to make sounds with their bodies, Mulder." "I know, but crickets are the only ones that can make *music*." Satisfied with his observation, he popped another seed into his mouth and rested his head against the back of the seat. "Mulder, you amaze me." He rolled the seed around in between his teeth. "Is that a good thing?" he asked, his voice low and seductive. She tried not to look at his mouth, but even in the dim light of the car, she couldn't help but be drawn to what his tongue was doing at the moment. "It's a good thing," she answered as she awkwardly uncrossed her ankles, then re-crossed them. With his head still pressed against the headrest, he turned his head to look at her. "How so?" His answer caught her off guard, and yet she had expected it. It was what he did...catching her off guard, challenging her with his thoughts and questions. It's also what she liked about him. Among other things. She uncrossed her ankles again and turned her body towards him. "Most people would look at these two crickets and see two bugs that needed to be swatted away or squashed, but you see something different, or in this case, you *hear* something different. You're able to see the possibilities in everything, Mulder...and I like that." "So I guess what you're saying is I'm turning you on right now," he stated matter of factly as he looked over at her out of the corner of his eye. "Maybe," she replied as she tried her best to keep her attention focused on the two crickets crawling across the windshield instead of looking at him. "Well, that's good to know," he said, sitting up just enough so that he could spit his used shell out the window. "I think so," she said simply. She looked at him then and smiled. He smiled back. He casually slid his hand over to her side of the car and offered it to her. She took it. "You know Scully, I could go for a little Elvis right about now. Do you think if we ask them nicely, they'll give us a free concert?" he asked, leaning forward and tapping the windshield with his left hand. Both crickets immediately scurried over to Scully's side of the window, this time crawling side by side. Gently squeezing his hand, she looked over at him, and replied, "Anything's possible." ~end~ Reflections http://members.tripod.com/sfrankovich/index.html Stories by Susan http://www.geocities.com/filesfan34/
